Sherri Lynn Wood will teach “Get Your Curve On”.

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

Get your curve on in this improvisational quilt-making workshop. Learn innovative ruler-free techniques for building wedged curves and for bias-strip piecing on the curve. Learn how to incorporate both techniques without a plan, into a finished composition, by committing one step at a time while celebrating mistakes! You will learn advanced approaches to improvised composition, develop a personal/intuitive language of color, and learn advanced ruler-free curve piecing techniques.

A little about our instructor:

Sherri Lynn lives and works in Oakland, CA as an artist, quilt maker, teacher and author.

“I offer a unique approach to patchwork that doesn’t rely on step-by-step instructions for following a pattern, instead I provide frameworks for flexible patterning that support improvisatory exploration.”

Sherri Lynn has an excellent book on improve quilting titled Improv Handbook for Modern Quilters, find it locally, if possible.

Sew OK 2016 Details

At Sew OK ’16, Latifah Saafir will teach her quilt pattern, Molehills.

Molehills is a fun pattern with two variations and so many opportunities for personalization. Latifah taught this class at Sewtopia Chicago and I saw some clever variations.

These curves are gentle and easy to sew and the quilt goes together pretty easily. Latifah is an excellent instructor, she teaches often and loves to do it!

Returning as the pop-up shop is Tulsa’s own, Owl and Drum! They were a big hit last year and the shop is well-curated.

Sew OK has a few sponsors to thank:

As mentioned before, Bernina Oklahoma City will provide machines for each attendee to use (and adore) during the event, so you can worry about packing fabric and not your machine! If you are local, stop in, they have a great selection of Aurifil and Mettler thread and great indie apparel patterns.Thank you, Bernina OKC!

Fat Quarter Shop is always in Sew OK’s corner! They are located in Texas and usually ship the same day if you order before 3 p.m., I call that winning! Thank you, Fat Quarter Shop for sponsoring Sew OK!

I want to thank one more sponsor today, Elizabeth Hartman Patterns! If you are not familiar with Elizabeth, she has the cutest quilt patterns (Fancy Fox, Preppy the Whale, and Hazel the Hedgehog, to name a few) and recently released a line of fabric called Rhoda Ruth with Robert Kaufman Fabrics. Right now, The Kittens are my favorite.

Good Eats in OKC

It’s almost go-time for this year’s event, we should talk about places to eat.

We will be in downtown OKC, my favorite area is midtown, it houses Stella, S & B Burgers, Hillbillies Po Boy & Oyster Bar, Bleu Garten (food truck court), Waffle Champion (let’s go on Sunday!), and more.

Vast is in the Devon Tower and I plan to go there for lunch on one of the days, we have 2 hours for lunch, so trek to midtown if you’d like.

23rd Street has a lot of great restaurants, but you’ll want transportation from the hotel, it’s not far, but, not walkable, you should get cupcakes from Cuppies and Joe or Green Goodies (definitely not walkable) and that’s it NOWHERE ELSE for cupcakes.

Here are a few links on places to visit while here!

Lizzy meadow quilt

Lizzy House is teaching the Meadow Quilt on Friday and Saturday. This gives students and opportunity to learn the block and work on it with her assistance with a great chance of completing it during the weekend.

–>> The Meadow Block is a beautiful block made with intricate techniques. Students will learn how to do the tricky, curved piecing, including a six-minute circle!

In this six hour class, students will first learn how to make the Meadow block. Lizzy will talk about the quilt as a whole, and how to decide what goes where. Students will choose fabric for the background, petal fabric, flower centers, and color groups. Students will complete approximately four blocks in class. <<–

We will have our open sewing time on Thursday night as well as Friday and Saturday evenings.

There will be Movie Night on Friday, we’ll watch a fun flick or two while we sew and have snacks!

Bernina OKC will be providing 350 PE model machines for all attendees to use for the weekend, you load has just be lightened by 20 pounds! This is my favorite Bernina and if you haven’t heard, “Nothing sews like a Bernina!”

A shop hop is on the itinerary! We will visit local shops and eateries again to kick off the weekend!

These are just little snippets of the fun ahead! You can check the FAQs page, SCHEDULE, or e-mail at: sewokretreat AT gmail.com with any questions or concerns.
